I am primarily a metals artist, my preferred metals are 22k gold, fine silver, copper & iron.
Graduate of Texas Institute of Jewelry Technology in Paris Texas, Dec of 1999
Bachelor of Fine Arts from New Mexico State University in 2007 with an emphasis in metal arts.
Master of Arts in Education (Curriculum & Instruction) NMSU, 2018
I worked for a high-end designer jeweler in Santa Fe in the 2000’s, and at Jareds in El Paso TX in the 2010's
Starting with an interested in design elements from the classical early Greek & Roman era. The bee and flower earrings are Greek inspired. This is to experiment how these pieces were made. For instance, for the Roman fibula and the Celtic torque necklace. I had to reverse engineer how the piece was originally produced having only photographs from textbooks of the original pieces.
While I was rummaging through obsolete electronic parts at a warehouse in the back of a computer repair store, I became inspired by the module like parts that could be used interchangeably in a sequence when applied to various pieces. Reproduced here in gold, silver & copper, as inspired by early electronics from White Sands Missile Range.
The artwork I make is three dimensional. I pick my inspiration for the pieces I make for their technical difficulty and not from some innate need to express myself.
Ideally, I would want to set up a metal arts classroom.
I have a practical approach to my art, and I would also teach art in a practical hands-on manner.
